Event: The 10,000 Steps Toward Life Event will be led by the famous heart surgeon and academician Leo Bokeria

Venue: Sochi, Olympic Park

Leo Bokeria (president of the All-Russian NGO National Health League) will work with Sochi officials to lead the 10,000 Steps Toward Life event for Forum participants, as well as Sochi residents and visitors.

The event route will begin at the main entrance to the Olympic Park and pass through Olympic Square, Adler Arena, Fisht Stadium, and Sochi Park, before returning to the main entrance to the Olympic Park.

A major objective of the event is to improve the knowledge and awareness of the public with respect to maintaining and promoting health, participating in the culture of physical activity and sports, as well as to create conditions that would lead people to choose and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

10,000 Steps Toward Life is based on the recommendation of the World Health Organization, which states that people should walk between 6,000 to 10,000 steps per day in order to maintain a minimum of regular physical activity.

According to this classification of physical activity, a person who takes less than 5,000 steps per day lives a sedentary lifestyle. The category of 5,000 to 7,499 steps per day, which does not include sports and physical activity, is classified as insufficient. The category of 7,500 to 9,999 steps per day, which includes some physical activity or walking (and/or a job that requires additional walking) is classified as moderately active. If a person takes 10,000 or more steps per day, they are classified as active.

Prior to the beginning of the event, specialists will measure the participants’ pulse and blood pressure in two mobile diagnostic facilities, which will be located next to the starting line. Meanwhile, instructions will be provided by representatives of the National Health League and the Ready for Labour and Defence (a programme promoting physical activity).

Admission is free! You must register at ligazn.ru to participate in the event and to receive a commemorative certificate.

During 10,000 Steps Toward Life, academician Leo Bokeria will present Sochi officials with the symbol of the Russian programme to promote healthy living #ПередайСердце (@pass_heart).
