Russian Minister of Sport discusses sport agenda at 2019 economic forums

Russian Minister of Sport Pavel Kolobkov has expressed support for the Healthy Life Forum: Towards 80+, which will be held on 13 February 2019 in Sochi. The business programme of the new Forum, which will be organized by the Roscongress Foundation, will include a session titled ‘Sport as a Part of Life: Problems and Solutions’.

Kolobkov also held discussions with Roscongress Foundation Deputy CEO Georgy Bryusov about plans for cooperation in coordinating the sporting programme and business sessions on sports at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, the ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ International Forum in Arkhangelsk, and the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi in 2019.

In 2018, two sports panels were included in the programme of the Eastern Economic Forum based on a proposal from the Ministry of Sport. Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga attended the session ‘World Sport Today: A View from the Asia-Pacific Region in the Run-Up to Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022’, which was attended by Russian Presidential Aide Igor Levitin, Russian Minister of Sport Pavel Kolobkov, Russian Olympic Committee President Stanislav Pozdnyakov, IOC Associate Director of Relations with the Olympic Movement James Macleod, International Judo Federation President Marius Vizer, Chinese Minister of Sport and Chinese Olympic Committee President Gou Zhongwen, Director of Media and Communications of the Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee Chang Yu, three-time Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling Alexander Karelin, and Mongolian sumo legend Dagvadorj Dolgorsuren. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, Russian Minister of Sport Pavel Kolobkov, and Russian Minister of Construction, Housing, and Utilities Vladimir Yakushev spoke at the session ‘PPP in Sport: New Opportunities for Investors’.

The central events of the sporting programmes at the economic forums in 2018 were the 2nd International Jigoro Kano Junior (U18) Judo Tournament under the Auspices of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzō Abe at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, the ‘Friendship Match’ of Russian and Japanese women’s saber fencing teams, which took place at the Russian Museum of Ethnography during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, and a race in support of Russian Olympians in Pyeongchang 2018 at the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi.
