27 February 2017

In order to deal with emergencies in inaccessible regions, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Healthcare are launching a joint project to supply air ambulance helicopters. Improving access to medical services in remote regions is one of the government’s priorities, Russian Healthcare Minister Veronika Skvortsova announced at the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi during the session on ‘Increasing the Effectiveness of Healthcare Administration’.

“There are 34 regions in the country with a low population density and difficult climate and geographical conditions”, the Minister explained. “Developing our helicopter fleet is one of the most effective ways of dealing with problems in remote areas.”

Skvortsova added that alongside the air ambulance project, work is being done to create a unified electronic service to standardize the work of the emergency services.

RUB 3.3 billion have been allocated to the air ambulance programme.
