Ministry of Economic Development to transfer ‘maternity capital’ programme to regional level

16 March 2017

The Ministry of Economic Development is discussing the possibility of transferring the ‘maternity capital’ programme that provides federal subsidies to multiple-child families to the regional level, while federal budget funds will be spent on co-financing the programme’s regional expenses, the RNS agency reports citing Deputy Minister of Economic Development Oleg Fomichev.

The programme “is one of the items to be considered as part of the [government’s action plan for 2017–2025]. This means that it might not be a federal issue, but perhaps a regional issue, and the federal government may co-finance regional maternity capital expenses. This theme is under discussion and will be further discussed by working groups”, Fomichev said.

During the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev presented participants with the main components of the government’s comprehensive action plan for the period until 2025.
