Russia to maintain agricultural exports of USD 17 bln in 2017

10 April 2017

The Russian Ministry of Agriculture predicts exports of agricultural products will remain at USD 17 billion in 2017, TASS news agency reports citing Minister of Agriculture Alexander Tkachev.

Russian agricultural exports were valued at USD 17.1 billion in 2016.

“Our export forecasts consist of the same figures that we stated at the start of the year – approximately USD 17 billion. And we believe that this is an acceptable figure for us”, Tkachev said.

Tkachev believes the possible appreciation of the rouble creates risks for agricultural exports.

“Certainly, the rouble’s appreciation is one of the risk factors that could tilt this bar to a certain degree. This impedes our competitiveness and puts our export positions at risk. But we hope that a balance will be found in this regard and we will return to the indicators that were announced at the beginning of the year”, he said.
