Young Enterprise – Fulcrum of the National Economy

14 February 2018
The session ‘Young Enterprise – Fulcrum of the National Economy’ was held on 14 February as part of Young Enterprise Day at the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi. The event was organized by All-Russia Non-Governmental Organization of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses Opora Russia. The moderator was Artem Androsov, Chairman of the Committee for Youth Entrepreneurship at Opora Russia.

Citing poll results, Opora Russia Vice-President Eduard Omarov pointed out that most entrepreneurs, especially young ones, did not use government programmes for supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and that those who did use them described them as inefficient. “Many prominent entrepreneurs laid the foundations of their businesses while young, aged up to 30. Yet the existing government programmes are, in fact, designed to support already established, mature businesses. It turned out that, for serious businessmen, it is very little, while for young beginners these programmes are beyond reach”, he concluded.

Evgeny Larionov, owner of Ex Libris and co-founder of Experum, agrees: “There is some progress but still we mostly have to rely on ourselves.”

Ruben Arutunyan, founder and President of Henderson fashion house, shared his business experience.

For her part, Yulia Alferova, Adviser to the Minister for Economic Development of the Russian Federation, stressed the need to draw regulators’ attention to work with entrepreneurial communities. “One of the most important tasks is to ensure a quick transfer of ideas from entrepreneurs to lawmakers.”
