Over 450 people run race on Formula 1 track at Russian Investment Forum 2017

26 February 2017

The sporting programme of the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi featured a morning race along the Formula 1 track at the Sochi Autodrom. Forum participants and Sochi residents had the choice of running one, two or four laps around the 5,500-metre track. Olympic biathlon champion Anatoly Alyabyev gave the official command to start the race.

Roman Starovoyt, the Director of the Federal Road Agency of the Russian Ministry of Transport, ran one lap and noted that such mass races have become an excellent tradition for economic forums. “This is a great opportunity for Russian Investment Forum participants to witness the beauty of the Olympic city of Sochi and recharge for the business programme in the company of colleagues and young people”, Starovoyt said.

Promoter of the Russian leg of the Formula 1 grand prix Sergei Vorobyov, who also ran a lap, pointed out the unique nature of the track. “A mass race is a great format to present the autodrom to the Forum participants”, he said.

The race on the Formula 1 track marked a continuation of the Sochi Corporate Games, which kicked off on February 25 at the Alexander Karelin Sports Complex. The Russian Minister of Sport Pavel Kolobkov sent the Games participants greetings, which in particular read: “Holding these competitions helps to get the economically active population involved in systematic physical training exercises and sport, strengthen team spirit and establish professional contacts among representatives of different organisations”.

Adidas Running Club demonstrated the best results among the 27 teams competing in the Games with nine victories: four in swimming, two in pull-ups, two in push-ups and one in darts. 2016 Olympic bronze medallist in judo Natalya Kuzyutina took part in the awards ceremony for the Games.

Roscongress Foundation Deputy Director Georgy Bryusov noted that the Sochi Corporate Games were held in a “place of strength for Russian sport”. “Fourteen Olympic wrestling champions and five judo champions grew up at this base”, he said. The Games became a sports symbol of the Russian Investment Forum for Sochi residents, he said. “The Corporate Games were held under the auspices of the Russian Investment Forum, but the main participants were Sochi residents. The Forum and Sochi residents have become closer thanks to this format”, Bryusov said.

This marks the second time the Sochi Corporate Games were held under the Forum’s auspices. Starting this year, the entire line-up of corporate games at economic forums held by the Roscongress Foundation has been included in the Unified Calendar of the Russian Ministry of Sport.
