President of the National Health League and Academician Leo Bokeria will be hosting the ‘10,000 Steps for Life’ initiative for everyone.

Route: main entrance to Olympic Park – Olympic Square – Adler Arena – Fisht Stadium – Sochi Park – main entrance to Olympic Park

The main objectives of the initiative are to raise the level of knowledge and awareness among the public about ways to take care of and improve your health, get people involved in active recreation, physical education, and sports, and help to create conditions for adhering to the principles of a healthy lifestyle as well as build the necessary infrastructure and develop walking routes.
Before the walk, specialists will check participants’ pulse and blood pressure at two mobile diagnostic facilities located near the starting area. Instructors from the Healthy Lifestyle and State Athletic Requirements League will hold a briefing.
The ‘10,000 Steps for Life’ initiative is based on WHO recommendations stating that a person should take 6,000–10,000 steps a day to maintain a minimum amount of normal physical activity.
According to the classification for the physical activity of healthy people, less than 5,000 steps a day means a person leads a ‘sedentary’ lifestyle. Walking 5,000–7,499 steps a day (the figure does not include sports and exercise) is considered ‘ineffective’. Walking 7500–9999 steps a day (including some exercise or walking and/or work that requires more walking) is considered ‘somewhat active’. Walking 10,000 or more steps per day means a person leads an ‘active’ lifestyle.
